Sarah King Comes Back Home With Debut EP, Single

Local songstress Sarah King will launch her debut self-titled EP at The Wheatsheaf Hotel on Sunday, August 27, and has released its lead single, Back Home, in anticipation of the gig.

Originally hailing from England, and now at home in Adelaide, King is a classically trained musician, with her sound influenced by the likes of Kate Bush, Feist and Nina Simone. King’s songs convey a dreamy, relaxed feeling, with hints of jazz, folk and pop blossoming in sumptuous, smooth arrangements as her crystalline voice shines through.

Back Home, the lead single from her self-titled EP reflects on her own period of settling into life in South Australia, and the very concept of home.

“I started exploring themes of home and what home means to different people, whether it’s a place, a person or something completely unique,” says King. “It’s a song about what and where home can be, a story of longing, reminiscing, reflection, acceptance and gratitude”

It was after her relocation to South Australia four years ago that King began writing and arranging the music on her EP, and was able to raise the funds to record through a crowd funding campaign. Local musicians Adam Page, James Brown, Kyrie Anderson, Hilary Kleinig and Lizzie Gregory all contribute to the EP, which was mastered by the UK’s Pete Maher, and engineered by Jarrad Payne.

As for the event at the Wheatsheaf this August, audiences can expect a laidback experience, with a large team of musicians on hand to keep the tunes rolling smoothly.

“People can expect a family friendly vibe with warm, lush, dreamy songs,” King says. “I’m playing with a full band and string quartet so it’s going to be special. It feels amazing to be officially releasing it out into the world.”
