The Enigma of Lola

The Enigma of Lola

Just who is the Lola behind the name of Adelaide Festival’s Lola’s Pergola?

Closer Productions’ short (The Enigma of Lola) explores the mythical Adelaide figure. Her influence on local food, wine and the arts is divulged by arts identities such as Anthony Steel, Ross Ganf and the Art Gallery’s Lisa Slade, winemakers Andrew Hardy and Justin Lane plus food figures Jordan Jeavons and Duncan Welgemoed. Like Woody Allen’s Zelig, Lola appears in archive footage but unlike Zelig we never hear her speak and she is often just out of camera shot, in the background or camouflaged by goings on such as her garden party for the opening of the 1962 Adelaide Festival. Still confused? Hopefully the video below will shed some light on the enigma that is Lola.
