RAW Adelaide hosts PRESENT, a local arts showcase

PRESENT will bring together more than 30 emerging cross-disciplinary artists from all around South Australia. The showcase on Friday, February 6, is the first for 2015.

This Friday, February 6, RAW Adelaide will host PRESENT, the first of five emerging-artist showcases for 2015. RAW:natural born artists is a worldwide network of inspiring and aspiring individuals. Across 60 cities around the globe, RAW helps to facilitate professional relationships between creatives from all genres, including dance, fashion design, music, theatre and visual art. The Adelaide branch hosts five display evenings a year, with this February marking the beginning of the RAW year. The cross-disciplinary collective of young artists pose work along a theme – last November was CURRENT, preceded by COMMUNIQUE. This time, the theme for the evening is PRESENT. Artists presenting this week include fashion designer Kelsey Sandercock, dancer Raegan and graphic designer Jess Matthews. Musicians performing include Conchillia (featuring Kiah Gossner from Bearded Gypsy Band), Sitara (Tess and Erin Fowler) and Abbey Howlett. For a full list of participants, see the RAW Adelaide website. In a statement, RAW Adelaide director Sam Meathrel says, “A new year always inspires those creatives who have been hiding in the shadows to give their creative talents a chance to shine. As a result PRESENT has drawn together some truly wonderful artists who can’t wait to share their work with you. “We can no longer rely on governments to fully support the arts and need to draw on our local communities to help provide that platform. We are trying to harness that community power here at RAW and make some changes to the way people support creatives in their communities. “We have been lucky enough to play a small part in helping local artists move to the next level in their creative careers. We get so much joy out of seeing an artist who has showcased as part of the RAW family go on to bigger and better things.” The showcase will be held at the Producers Bar on Grenfell Street; doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are available now online for $16.50+bf, or for $20 at the door.
