Gallery M Art Prize Exhibition Returns to Support SA Visual Artists

Established and emerging South Australian artists once again have the opportunity to submit their works to Gallery M for consideration in their Contemporary Art Prize Exhibition.

Gallery M, located at the Marion Cultural Centre, is for a second year hosting the Gallery M Contemporary Art Prize Exhibition after a successful launch in 2016. The exhibition is open to visual artists over the age of 18 currently living and working in South Australia, with any media being accepted for consideration.

Entries are required to be submitted before May 31, with the exhibition opening on August 4 and concluding on August 27. During this time frame the gallery will be open to the public Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.

A panel of three independent art professionals will serve as judges for the exhibition, with prizes totaling over $5000. The winner will receive the $3,000 major prize donated by Jarrah Holmes of Century 21. Of the 160 entries submitted in 2016, the winner of the Gallery M Art Prize Exhibition was Tim O’Shea’s oil on canvas entitled At the Gallery.

Before passing away shortly after the 2016 exhibition launch, 2016 second prize winner Ian Willding generously donated his $1000 prize to be offered to an emerging artist. His prize is this year offered as the Ian Willding Emerging Artist Prize. Emerging artists in this instance are in their first five years of professional arts practice, with age not being a factor.

Other prizes consist of the $500 Warradale Hotel Prize, a $500 Splashout Art Studios Award Voucher and a Premier Art Supplies Prize consisting of a $100 voucher.

Submissions must be accompanied by a high resolution digital image of the artwork. Two entries may be submitted by each artist, with a fee paid for each. Fees are $15 for Red House Group members and $20 for non-members. Entries for the exhibition close on May 31.
