If you’re heading to Adelaide’s biggest Melbourne Cup party, at Morphetville Racecourse on Tuesday, November 4, you better come dressed in your spring racing best. Morphetville’s Fashion at the Races competition is a chance for stylish race-goers to be crowned the day’s best-dressed male and best-dressed female and win a $500 Burnside Village voucher. The winner will also get a chance to head to the state final next year where they will be in the running to win a brand new car from Alfa Romeo. Judges will be looking for appropriateness of the outfit, so keep in mind that it is a spring cup. Leave the black and white for Derby Day and instead look for colours – try a yellow, orange or even electric blue. If bold colours are not viable options, embrace nude hues and think about geometrics to break up the colour. Lace is also always a classic option. Originality is another criteria to think about so do not be afraid to step outside of the box to be noticed. When it comes to accessories, keep it simple. Millinery is a must but it does not have to be over the top, a jeweled headband or a nice fascinator has become more than acceptable in modern races. Appropriate footwear is a necessity, not only for the competition but also because it is a day spent at the races, meaning there is going to be a lot of grass. For those that need a touch-up before the competition, the complimentary style lounge will be open from 12pm featuring hair styling by Clip Joint and makeup touch ups by Napoleon Perdis. In the end, it is about wearing something that will allow room for confidence. Personality will always shine through the choice of outfit, and the judges will be able to see this as well. While the race that stops the nation is the biggest event on the South Australian Jockey Club’s Spring Racing calendar, 2014 promises to be even better with an after race concert by Guy Sebastian and his band. So, dress to impress and be ready for a celebration at the end. There’s nothing like a day at the races. For more information about the day, go to sajc.com Sponsored content
