Home to over 40 cellar doors, restaurants, a variety of accommodation options set amongst the rolling countryside of one of South Australia’s favourite wine regions, now is the perfect time to leave the city – and the last few months – behind.
At an easy one and a half hour drive north of Adelaide, you’ll be in Auburn with a coffee, hot chocolate or glass of wine in your hand before you, or the kids and pets, know it. From there you can start to meander your way through the villages of the Clare Valley, taking in the rich variety of art, history, viticulture and natural beauty along the way – not to mention all the friendly locals and world-class produce along the way.
In the evening settle into your accommodation, head out to dinner or sit around the campfire with your bag of supersized marshmallows and a glass of Clare Valley Shiraz.
For those with families, there’s plenty to keep the little ones entertained. Delve into the subterranean mining heritage of neighbouring Burra, explore the region’s cinematic history with locations from Australian new wave classics like Picnic At Hanging Rock and Breaker Morant, or wave hello to the local kangaroos as you ride along the Riesling Trail.
If you’ve felt stressed, restless and hemmed in over the past few months, this is a perfect moment to leave it all behind to relax, take stock and enjoy the refreshing country air. Fair warning, you may find it difficult to return home.
