Sydney Film Festival (SFF) and Adelaide Film Festival will stream the new Australian feature film Fell on-demand this weekend in a forward-thinking move for domestic film distribution.
This move marks a significant divergence from traditional methods of film distribution. Feature films normally undergo lengthy film festival and theatrical runs before (often illegally) finding their way to online viewers. Fell producer John Maynard sees this unconventional move as a “game-changer in a multi-screen world,” as he notes in a press release regarding this milestone in Australian cinema exhibition. Fell stars Daniel Henshall from SA’s own Snowtown and The Babadook, and will stream for 50 hours on the Sydney and Adelaide Film Festival websites from Friday June 13. Watch it in HD on any internet-enabled device including Smart TV, digital TV, touchscreen tablet, PC, laptop, game console or smartphone. It will be available to everyone in NSW, QLD, ACT, SA and NT, giving viewers there the opportunity to host private premiere screenings anywhere with an internet connection. “This is a really exciting way to explore the virtual film festival experience with a great new Australian film,” says Adelaide Film Festival director Amanda Duthie.
