Artists looking to get involved with the South Australian Living Artist festival will need to register their exhibition by Monday, May 18.
Artists have just under three weeks to register for SALA 2015. The South Australian Living Artist Festival is the state’s premier visual arts festival, and takes place over the month of August every year. Last year’s festival saw nearly 4700 artists participate in 550 exhibitions. Glenn Kestell, an oil painter, was the 2014 recipient of Rip It Up‘s Young Artist Award. He tells us that the SALA experience is “exhilarating”. “The Fringe and SALA are my two favourite times of the year,” he says. “I always want to be part of SALA however which way I can. “It is one of the few times a year that SA art is truly celebrated [and] to be part of the celebrations in its totality is very inspiring.” This year, Kestell will be presenting an exhibition at BMG Art from July to mid-August, which will coincide with SALA. He’ll also be taking part in a live drawing demonstration at Floating Goose Studios, an up-and-coming gallery in the old Trims building. “These live sessions are to highlight the ‘Living Artist’ and reveals what is usually something that happens behind closed doors,” explains Kestell. Works created in the live demonstrations will be kept on display at Floating Goose throughout SALA. Artists looking to get involved with the visual art festival will need to register their exhibition by Monday, May 18. Applications can be made through SALA’s website. Further information is available in SALA’s artist pack.
