People's Choice Award 2015 - Vote to win

This year’s awards again demonstrate the wide variety of work done by landscape architects. The Design category is hotly contested and diverse. Projects range from major state investments worth millions of dollars such as the Riverbank Pedestrian Bridge to streetscapes, local parks and intimate special gardens. Unusually this year we have seen an increase in the number of play spaces, including the cheerful Hart’s Mill playground in Port Adelaide and play-focused community parks such as the Playford Alive Town Park, both by Aspect Studios. The hugely popular Bonython Park Playspace and a carefully delivered, tiny-budget Sensory Garden for Suneden Special School are by WAX. Landscape architects often collaborate with specialists such as engineers and horticulturalists. The astonishing outcomes achieved at Botanic Gardens Wetlands by Taylor Cullity Lethlean, involved input from many experts. There is growth in other collaborations. More than ever, landscape architects engage eagerly with users from the very start of a project. This has surely led to outcomes that are well loved. The profession is expanding traditional project types while rethinking user involvement. This makes judging very exciting but also difficult.
