2015 Planning Institute Awards

The Awards for Planning Excellence highlight the diverse and varied roles of planners in the planning and development of our urban and regional environments. The Awards demonstrate what focused teams with diverse skills and a common goal can achieve. The Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) is the national body representing planning and the planning profession. Through education, communication and professional development, PIA serves and guides thousands of planning professionals. Good planning is the best way to manage urban growth or decline, sequence infrastructure, determine appropriate settlement patterns and generate economic development that contributes positively to the wellbeing of individuals, communities and the natural environment. The Awards for Planning Excellence also recognise outstanding performance, leadership and contribution of individual planners to the industry or their community. These are an opportunity to celebrate planning success and share knowledge for the betterment of the profession and local communities. While not every nominated project comes away with an award or commendation, all of the projects nominated deserve recognition for the contribution they have made to the planning and development of South Australia. Award winners demonstrate a contribution to liveable communities, excellence in planning and recognition of the triple bottom line of economic, social and environmental sustainability. Notable projects recognised in the Awards include Adelaide Oval in the Great Place Category, Prospect Memorial Gardens Master Plan in the Public Engagement and Community Planning Category and the Frank Hamilton Landfill Remediation Project in the Hard Won Victory Category. The Minister’s Award was granted to Adelaide Oval, while the PIanning Institute of Australia (SA) President’s Award went to the Planning Education Foundation of South Australia Inc. in recognition of its impact on the education of planners and the community. Successful South Australian projects will go on to compete at the National Planning Institute of Australia Awards for Planning Excellence in Brisbane and will represent the great work that is being undertaken in South Australia.
