Morrissey, one of the most controversial and celebrated figures in popular music, is to return to Australia this October for his first national headline tour since 2012.
The former singer of Manchester’s legendary The Smiths is one of the most unique voices in music with his never-equalled expressive delivery and literary-referencing songwriting, which has led to his lyrics being studied by academics. Morrissey, who was last in Australia for Sydney’s Vivid festival last year, and his band play the Thebarton Theatre on Wednesday, October 26. Aside from a celebrated solo career, Morrissey, who along with The Smiths’ guitarist Johnny Marr formed the most intriguing frontman and guitarist pairing of the ’80s, is no stranger to controversy with his strident support for vegan causes and animal rights. With The Smiths, Morrissey and the rest of his bandmates released classic albums including Meat is Murder and The Queen is Dead, before Moz forged a significant solo career.
