This year we received 27 entrants across eight categories. Combined with the 2015 entrants, the awards have highlighted 58 key projects from South Australian practices, which is evidence of the strength and capacity of the local market.
It provides an excellent body of local work that demonstrates the high quality of design within South Australia and provides an insight into the contemporary issues and design directions landscape architects are challenged with.
AILA SA and its members are working towards a more liveable, resilient and prosperous South Australia where design has a central role in determining its low carbon future. The awards program does not only celebrate the input of landscape architects, it also demonstrates the importance of collaboration.
The entries demonstrate the critical role effective partnerships play in enabling greater outcomes. Partnerships between open and engaged government, informed and committed community, inspired and ambitious clients, and collaborative talented design teams have underpinned the achievements recognised in the awards.
The program demonstrates the many ways design can bring a greater sense of equity and humanity to our parks, streets and public spaces. Whether it is through cultural attachment, social engagement, economic drivers or the most basic physical connections, people must be the focus of design. Design can be an incredibly powerful tool to empower people, and good design projects can create places that foster stronger and more resilient communities.
AILA SA continues to highlight the importance of green or living infrastructure in determining the quality of life within South Australia. The award entrants reflect the diversity of ideas and opportunities for green infrastructure across inner city, outer suburbs and regional South Australia.
They demonstrate the variety of roles landscapes can play as the foundation for more liveable cities and the increasingly important role landscapes can play in adapting our communities against the challenges faced by a changing climate.
