While events are few and far between on Good Friday, there are still a few things you can occupy yourself with — one of them just happens to be revisiting everyone’s favourite boy-and-alien combo in the comfort of Hindley Street’s GU Film House.

Saturday, April 15

Bring The Noise presents Farewell Rhino Room

Sadly, the time has come to bid adieu to the Rhino Room at its iconic Frome Street location. The good news is that venue management has decided to reopen the space at a new site, and you can help them raise some funds by buying a ticket to their farewell show this Saturday night.

Featuring acts like Ollie English, Little Captain, Adie Haines and Peachy Keen along with some drink specials and a raffle, you’re bound to have a fantastic time at the send-off for one of our city’s most treasured venues.

Barossa Made Market

Enjoy an evening spent fossicking through handmade wares in the surrounds of the stunning Barossa Valley. Find jewellery, homewares, clothes, food, and last but not least, wine. Why not make a day of it and book in at one of the delicious local restaurants for a late lunch too?

Adelaide International Kite Festival

Head to Semaphore Beach over the Easter long weekend and soak up the relaxed atmosphere of the International Kite Festival. The showcase will feature international flyers from New Zealand and Malaysia as well as interstate and local participants, with stallholders selling wares and food across the weekend.

Doggie Easter Hunt @ Plant 4 Bowden

Who said dogs can’t enjoy Easter chocolates too? Treat your pup to a big day out at the Plant 4 Bowden Markets where they can sniff out pooch-friendly carob treats hidden about the place. Afterwards, grab a coffee and a bite to eat for yourself at one of the many stalls inside.

Cruelty-Free Picnic @ Oakbank Racing Club

If you’re against the idea of horse racing, the Animal Justice Party will be holding a picnic in protest of jumps racing on Saturday and Monday from 11am at Oakbank. The Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses will also be holding rallies on both of these days.

Goldentone and Michael Plater @ Grace Emily Hotel

Adelaide expat Goldentone will be taking to the stage with his downtempo alternative pop at the Grace on Sunday, and will no doubt provide a memorable show to wind down to after the busy Easter weekend. This will be the perfect opportunity to enjoy an intimate show with the artist who has made his mark on the Australian music scene over the past decade.

Easter Monday, April 17

RED @ Art Gallery of South Australia

Having a day off from work is a fantastic reason to embrace some of the dynamic culture on offer in Adelaide. RED, a surrealist film directed by del kathryn barton, is screening for free at the Art Gallery until April 30. Featuring Cate Blanchett, the work explores the notion of female power inspired by the mating rituals of the Australian red back spider.

Versus Rodin: Bodies across space and time

A selection of works by legendary sculptor Auguste Rodin is currently on exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia. The showcase juxtaposes Rodin’s key pieces with innovative works by leading and contemporary artists, as well as displaying the largest collection of Rodin’s bronze sculptures in the Southern Hemisphere.
