Alex Atala, David Thompson and Peter Gilmore bound for Tasting Australia

Tasting Australia’s 2019 program mixes globally-acclaimed visiting chefs with South Australian culinary adventures over 90 events across the festival’s 10-days.

The annual food and wine festival will see one of the world’s most recognisable and innovative chefs, Brazil’s Alex Atala of D.O.M. fame, cook in the Glasshouse Kitchen, as will Australia’s great Thai chef David Thompson and Peter Gilmore, the chef behind Australia’s current number one restaurant according to Gourmet Traveller, Quay.

Aside from the visiting guests, other highlights of the 2019 Tasting Australia program, which runs from April 5 to April 14, are the epicurean adventures, which will take diners out to South Australia’s regions. These include the three-day Surf Food Safari through Innes National Park, the Tasting Australia Flotilla on the River Murray, the return of Tasting Australia Airlines and an Italian feast at Yalumba.

The Glasshouse Kitchen in the festival’s city hub (Town Square) will see some of the world’s most recognisable and ground-breaking chefs on the pans for eight themed nights. This includes Atala headlining the Wild night on April 13 with O Tama Carey (Lankan Filling Station), Karena Armstrong (The Salopian Inn) and Oliver Edwards (The Summertown Aristologist).

Thompson (of Nahm fame) leads the Effervescence night on April 7 while Gilmore will cook with Japan’s Shinobu Namae (L’Effervescence), Emma Shearer (The Lost Loaf) and Lachlan Colwill (Hentley Farm) for the Nouveau night on April 6. Other big-name chefs in the Glasshouse Kitchen include Paul Carmichael (Momofuku Seiobo), Manoella Buffara (Manu, Brazil), Chiro Kanzaki (Restaurant Virtus, France), Garima Arora (Gaa, Thailand) and Adelaide’s Poh Ling Yeow.

The full program can be viewed at Tasting Australia. Tickets are available now.
