Feast Announces 2013 Festival

Feast, Adelaide’s annual (LGBT) queer culture festival, has announced its theme for this year, along with four exciting events and a new festival home.

This year’s theme, Gender – Mix It Up, encompasses everything in-between and outside of the gender binary. “Gender – Mix It Up will explore gender, sexualities, power, patriarchy, government, feminism, and culture through the festivals electric mix of festivities; examining what role and influence gender has on our lives,” Feast’s Artistic Director, Catherine Fitzgerald said in a press release. Running from Saturday, November 9 to Sunday, November 24, this year’s festival will offer a thrilling mix of music, theatre, film, literature, queer ideas, cabaret and drag, all held within the festival’s new home – The ANZ Cluster based in the Lion Arts Centre. Headlining the artistic program is Australia’s country music sweetheart Beccy Cole, who will perform her biggest hits at a one-off boot-swinging, guitar-twanging party concert. If fishnets and high-heels are your thing, the all-male cabaret review Le Male will be steaming up the festival as they present Australia’s sexiest all-male cabaret show. For a more moving experience, deaf and hearing audiences alike can enjoy the awe-inspiring Monologue of a Deaf Woman, a one-woman theatrical piece about life, love and the universe from a deaf gay woman’s perspective. The festival will also host its first-ever ‘Bedlam’, featuring a line-up of Australia’s most renowned queer DJs, including the recently dubbed First Lady of House, Kate Monroe, drag DJ Kitty Glitter and renowned Sydney DJ Alex Taylor. And if this isn’t enough, more events are set to be announced in the next month. “I have mixed up discussion, forums and critical thinking with content and form throughout the program,” Fitzgerald said. “It will challenge and confront, but also sustain the playfulness, celebratory fun that is Feast.
