ATSI Music Program Opportunity

Applications for a new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) music development program launched by Nexus Arts in partnership with the Centre for Aboriginal Music Studies close on Monday, July 7. The free program, made possible by funding from Arts SA, will give an ATSI musician the opportunity to take part in a 10-month intensive program focused on creating career pathways and providing support for emerging South Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians. “This project was developed in response to a request by Arts SA,” said Program Director, Ross McHenry. “It is in line with similar programs being delivered in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney and aims to assist in creating pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians in Adelaide.” The ATSI Contemporary Musician Program will help participants develop aspects relevant to their career aspirations and will provide assistance in creating timelines, applying for festivals, creating press packs, accessing funding opportunities, professional networking opportunities and may also assist with seeking songwriting, arranging or technical mentorships or tuition. Workshops throughout the year will feature high profile music industry members including artists, managers, promoters and recording industry figures, with selected participants given the opportunity to spend time in small groups or one-on-one with key industry figures. “In the pilot year there will be four participants selected. There will also be four open workshops that will engage key figures in the Australian music industry,” said McHenry. “These [open] workshops will be open to anyone in the Adelaide ATSI music community.” To apply for the program, you need to include: · Brief artist bio (no more than 200 words) · One page summary of:

o A brief outline of current music goals

o Explain how the opportunity to participate in this program would assist you to achieve these goals
