The annual Transitions Film Festival returns to the Mercury Cinema next month with a huge line up of inspirational and groundbreaking documentaries, shining a spotlight on the innovations, ideas, change-makers and activists helping to build a sustainable and ethical future. The festival, now in its third year, will launch on Friday, October 24 with an evening of live music, tasty local treats and four short docos by Australian filmmakers before kicking into gear from Friday, November 7 to Wednesday, November 19 with a packed program of local and international films. The program highlights the communities and individuals pushing for change and advancements in areas of health and medicine, food security, renewable energy and more, with screenings like Musicwood, which tracks the most famous guitar-makers in the world on a jungle quest to save the acoustic guitar, Revolutionary Optimists, which chronicles the story of India’s slum children bringing drinkable water to their village for the first time, Growing Cities which follows a team of students travelling the US in search of a solution to the global food crisis, and Future of Energy which showcases inspirational stories of community groups laying the foundations for the international energy revolution. The festival will also feature post-film discussions and forums with leading artists and sustainability experts from across the country including celebrity gardener/beard specialist Costa Georgiadis.
