Cabaret Fringe celebrates 10 years

Cabaret Fringe celebrates 10 years

Some of cabaret’s best home-grown and national talent will descend on Adelaide for the 10th Cabaret Fringe Festival.

The open access, independently-run festival takes place from Friday, May 29 to Sunday, June 28 and will coincide with the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, which opens in June. This year marks the 10th Cabaret Fringe Festival, which debuted to humble beginnings in 2003 in the Weimar Room on Hindley Street and has grown to incorporate more than 100 artists performing in 42 events across 14 city venues. The Opening Night Gala on Friday, May 29 will pay homage to the very first Cabaret Fringe Festival, with hosts Berlin Cabaret, who performed at the debut event back in 2003. Transforming the German Club into a Weimar-era speakeasy, the stars of Berlin Cabaret will invite this year’s performers to take to the stage in a tantalising teaser of the 2015 program. Highlights of this year’s event include Adult-ish, fronted by local burlesque star Luna Eclipse to tackle the ever-growing struggle to master the art of being a grown-up; Food Court, a satirical look at fad eating regimes, celebrity chefs, refugee policy and food porn by Adelaide’s Catherine Campbell, Carol Young, Rachel Kirkman and Matt RussellA Postmodern Striptease, a one-woman cabaret show/sexy lecture in performance theory and psychoanalysis by Irene Nicola; and Geek Pop Quiz featuring questions, riddles and music about and by the anti-heroes of pop music, beginning with the godfather of geek Buddy Holly.
