Texan singer-songwriter Kevin Morby and Alabamian Waxahatchee lead the lineup this year, bringing a taste of the US’ indie scene to the southern vales, while Queensland’s Greta Stanley and local Delia Obst fill the bill thus far.
“Kevin Morby is an incredible artist, whose music, songwriting and lyricism has been acclaimed worldwide, and been listened to in our own kitchens in camp Porchland for years,” says Sian Walden, one of Porchland’s founders and organisers. “Rolling guitars, sparse arrangements that allow the right amount of space and time. We adore the man and his work. And just know that Adelaide will too.”
Walden says that Waxahatchee, the musical pseudonym of Katie Crutchfield will wow the Adelaide audience too, quoting Pitchfork to call her “a master of blending introversion and extroversion, communicating emotional subtleties with music that sounds best shouted in unison by adoring crowds.”
“We couldn’t agree more,” says Walden.
Porchland is putting down roots amongst the pines of The Range in 2018. Originally conceived as a travelling festival, Porchland will return to the same spot it was held in in 2017.
“We were over the moon with The Range as a site in 2017, so we’ve set up shop there for a little while,” Walden says. “That pine-lined field, those ocean views, rolling hills – we’ve found our home.”
Other changes in the festival noted for come-one-come-all attitude include those international acts and an expanded marketplace.
“We’ve hand crafted a larger market bazaar this year, and more weird and wonderful tricks up our sleeve, just to really concrete a firm ‘nice time’ will be had by all,” says Walden. “Boy, it’s looking pretty special.”
