Genre-blurring Kiwi party band Fat Freddy’s Drop will return to WOMADelaide in March, having previously endeared themselves to Botanic Park crowds at the 2014 festival. The group will make a slight detour from a previously announced run of Australian shows to appear on Saturday, March 9.
Although the group has yet to issue a full length follow up to 2015’s Bays, a new single titled Trickle Down was released in 2018. They’ll join a weekend-long musical spread that includes the legendary Angelique Kidjo, Liz Phair, John Butler Trio, Las Cafeteras, Christine and the Queens and Tkay Maidza.
The festival’s Artists In Conversation program has been bolstered by a session with previously announced performers Angelique Kidjo and Fatoumata Diawara. Senator Penny Wong and Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Simon Birmingham will join ABC Radio National’s Fran Kelly and Patricia Karvelas’ Party Room podcast, hosted as part of the Planet Talks program. Comedian and The Project regular Peter Hellier will also join the Kidzone to read excerpts from his series of children’s books.
In addition to those additions, the festival has partnered with UniSA’s innovative museum MOD. to host an exhibit titled Feeling Human over the weekend, housed in a converted shipping container dubbed ‘WOMOD.’.
