Sefton’s time as artistic director at the Adelaide Festival brought with it a welcome focus on contemporary music, and there are echoes of his four-year Festival reign with the venue Dusk Till Dawn. Part of RCC’s newest iteration at the University of Adelaide, Dusk Till Dawn is billed as a “late-night playground of immersive music, art and light”. Joining the venue are the return of the installations Neon Forest and Disco Bus as well as the Boombox main stage. These venues will host more than 120 artists performing over five weekends.
The eclectic music program includes performances by three of the principal members of Russian punk activist collective Pussy Riot, legendary Japanese psych-rock band Acid Mothers Temple and dream pop duo Beach House.
Among the other acts to watch is Rev Billy & The Stop Shopping Choir, who combine guerrilla theatre, performance art and gospel. Former Bad Seed Mick Harvey will perform a tribute to Serge Gainsbourg and techno legends Orbital will play a show with Australian electronic pioneers Severed Heads.
A range of performance spaces across the University of Adelaide campus will host subversive cabaret, outrageous circus and bleeding edge comedy acts such as Cirque Alfonse, Penny Arcade and Briefs.
Union House will also host a hedonistic loft club for pass and ticket holders that promises to take the party late into the night.
