Nancy And Beth, a collaboration between Mullally and fellow actor Stephanie Hunt (Friday Night Lights), will make their mainland Australian debut at the festival, announced today as part of a national tour that includes stops in Hobart, Melbourne, Brisbane and Newcastle. The pair released their debut album in April 2017 before touring America.
The news marks the one of the first major announcements for the 2019 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, its first year under new artistic director Julia Zemiro, joining Judy Garland drama End Of The Rainbow previously revealed in the State Theatre of South Australia’s 2019 program.
“I am beyond thrilled to announce one of our first acts of the 2019 Adelaide Cabaret Festival,” Zemiro says of the news. “It’s song and dance but not as you know it. It’s out of the box and it’s not Karen from Will & Grace as you know her.
“Two besties and a band, breaking the routine. Let yourselves be seduced.”
Fans of the Will & Grace star fans will recall the comedian was due to tour Australia as a double act alongside her husband Parks & Recreation star Nick Offerman in 2015, before withdrawing due to filming commitments and leaving Offerman to fly solo. Since then Mullaly has enjoyed renewed success with the revival of hit 90s sitcom Will & Grace, widely regarded to be among the better – and least controversial – of the many US TV reboots launched in the past 18 months.
The duo will perform across two nights at the Dunstan Playhouse.
