The Country by Martin Crimp

Stone/Castro, in association with Insite Arts, present THE COUNTRY by Martin Crimp. A cryptic thriller which has played in theatres around the world, presented by the dynamic theatre/dance creative duo Jo Stone and Paulo Castro.

In THE COUNTRY, a doctor and his wife move to the country to start a new life. Before long their rural idyll is shattered when one night the husband returns home with an unconscious woman he claims to have found collapsed on a rural roadside. A game of secrets and lies unveils a vivid backdrop of even greater delusion: that the countryside offers escape.

Since forming Stone/Castro in Europe during 2003, Jo Stone and Paulo Castro have been commissioned to direct, create, write and perform contemporary theatre pieces for a number of Australian and European companies and festivals. Independently they continue to freelance and have worked for companies such as Les Ballet C de La B, Portuguese National Theatre, Chunky Move, Schaubühne-Berlin and State Theatre Company here in Adelaide. They are recognized worldwide for forging unique, humorous, corrosive, contemporary and original theatre/dance works.
