UPDATE: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions on mass gatherings, State Opera South Australia’s production of Carmina Burana has been suspended.
The most popular work of the 20th Century, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana is a powerful pagan musical offering that celebrates nature, fortune, love, lust, and drinking.
Based on a collection of medieval texts, it is an epic work for mass choir, orchestra, and soloists. From its opening chorus O Fortuna, the raw, bold power of the music captivates and exalts, making it one of the most iconic scores in popular culture. Starring Samuel Dale Johnson, Desiree Frahn and Paul McMahon, with the full State Opera Chorus, Young Adelaide Voices, and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Benjamin Northey. This choral spectacular will be a night to remember.
Following a sell-out performance of Carmen in the Square in 2019, State Opera presents Carmina Burana at Memorial Drive Park for one extraordinary night.
