Young Gun of Wine UNCUT to arrive in Adelaide

Spread between Mother Vine and East End Cellars, the Adelaide iteration of UNCUT is set to bring dozens emerging winemakers from across the country to pour out in excess of 60 different wines for attendees.

Following from this year’s Young Gun of Wine competition, where the country’s best and most innovative new winemakers are lauded, guests will be able to savour the wines of 2017 finalists including Charlotte Hardy’s Charlotte Dalton Wines, John Hughes’ Rieslingfreak (which won Winemaker’s Choice), Ricky Evans’ Two Tonne Tasmania and Rob Mack’s Aphelion Wine Co. (which won Best New Act).

Speaking to The Adelaide Review, Young Gun of Wine’s founder Rory Kent says the competition and events like UNCUT aim to highlight the successful experimentation currently going on in Australia’s wine industry.

“These labels share common threads of new varieties, regional exploration and alternative winemaking techniques,” says Kent. “It all adds to an increasing colour palette of Australian wine.”

Importantly, these emerging names are willing to step beyond the bounds of traditional winemaking, says Rory. “The thing about emerging wine producers is they’re a source of innovation, inspiration and new ideas. They’re not shackled by conventions. They’re free.”

The UNCUT series of events serves as a prelude to the annual proceedings of the Young Gun of Wine Awards. Next year’s top 50 will be announced in April, the final 12 in May, and the award winners in June.
