Henschke celebrates 150 years with EOFY lunch

Fifth generation winemaker Stephen Henschke will host the Hot 100 Wines EOFY Degustation Lunch, sharing a diverse selection of Henschke wines; 2016 Eleanor’s Cottage Sauvignon Blanc Semillon (Adelaide Hills/Eden Valley), 2016 Archer’s Vineyard Chardonnay (Adelaide Hills), 2015 Henry’s Seven Shiraz Grenache Mataro Viognier (Barossa) and 2015 Stone Jar Tempranillo (Eden Valley), along with a four course meal prepared by the Hot 100 Harvest Kitchen.

The event will be an opportunity for wine lovers to warm the end of financial year cockles and hear the tales of success fuelled by a family business, rich in heritage, Henschke says.

“In 2018, we celebrate 150 years of Henschke family winemaking and 177 years since my paternal great-great-grandfather, Johann Christian Henschke (Christian), travelled with his family from Prussia to Port Adelaide in 1841. Each generation has contributed to the success of Henschke – winemakers Johann Christian, Paul Gotthard, Paul Alfred, Cyril Alfred and their families.” he says.

It was 1868 when Johann Cristian Henschke established Henschke Cellars and produced his first commercial vintage on a small vineyard in Keyneton, of the Eden Valley region. Since then, and over six generations, winemaking has flowed in the family’s blood. With its foundation of strong family ties and traditional winemaking techniques, Henschke has become one of Australia’s most venerated wine labels. The brand produces some of the nation’s finest wines, with grapes sourced from the Eden Valley, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills regions.

Henschke says that he, along with his wife Prue and their children, have continued to expand their family business with a focus on building sustainable vineyards. “We believe that our vines should thrive in a healthy balance with our natural landscape; and that our historic, unique single-vineyard sites can inspire perfection and produce exceptional wines that speak of a true sense of place.”

Henschke will also award a bottle of the coveted Keyneton Euphonium Magnum as a prize for attendees purchasing wine on the day.
