Adelaide will be greeted by the smell of fresh coffee and brioche in the city’s first ever French Christmas Market, held over two days at the Soldiers Memorial Garden in Unley.
Adelaide will be greeted by the smell of fresh coffee and brioche in the city’s first ever French Christmas Market, held over two days at the Soldiers Memorial Garden in Unley. In a celebration of all things French, the free community event will showcase 30 South Australian businesses selling their specialties to the community, with everything from wine and cheese to delicious croissants and traditional handicrafts. Families can wander through an array of stalls, while listening to the Trio Montagne and children from the Alliance Française’s La Petite Ecole sing traditional French songs and Christmas carols. Foodies can discover the art of French gastronomy with cooking demonstrations by some of the state’s most creative chefs, including Chef of the Year 2013 Duncan Welgemoed from Adelaide restaurant Bistro Dom. Also delivering a French Christmas atmosphere is Mulots Patisserie. The Hyde Park patisserie will sell homemade Mulots ice cream, traditional French Christmas dessert (buche de noel) as well as many more delicious French delicacies including drinks for children called Santa Claus Drink (apple juice and honey). This unique cultural experience is one for all ages – face painting will be available for children, while couples can indulge in a dance to some mellow jazz on the park’s rotunda decorated with Christmas lights. The French Christmas Market Opening Ceremony will take place on Friday, December 6 at 6.30pm, hosted by Minister Assisting the Minister for the Arts Chloe Fox, the City of Unley and the Alliance Française d’Adelaide.
